Abstract

In modern conditions, geographic information systems (GIS) are becoming increasingly important to ensure effective infrastructure management and safety in many industries, particularly in railway transport. The purpose of using such systems is to increase the accuracy of management, optimize logistics processes, and ensure continuous monitoring of the state of the infrastructure. The integration of GIS into the Ukrainian railway systems will contribute to reducing operating costs and improving control over the condition of railway tracks, which is especially critical in conditions of significant wear and tear of the infrastructure. Therefore, the research on problems and prospects of using modern information technologies and systems (including GIS) does not raise doubts.

The purpose of the work is to analyze and research the issues, opportunities, and prospects of implementing GIS in the railway infrastructure of Ukraine to increase the efficiency of management and ensure the safety of train traffic. Special attention is paid to the technical challenges arising in integrating GIS with existing information systems, as well as data standardization issues and financial aspects related to introducing new technologies. The experience of countries such as Germany, Japan, and China, where GIS is actively used for infrastructure management and improving transport logistics, is considered.

The use of the considered approaches and methods of GIS integration into the railway system of Ukraine will allow: to ensure continuous monitoring of the state of the infrastructure, timely detection of potential defects that may affect traffic safety, and increase the efficiency of logistics processes, which will contribute to the reduction of operating costs; ensure optimization of the use of Ukraine's transit potential as an important transport corridor between Europe and Asia. The proposed recommendations will contribute to the country's long-term railway infrastructure development and increase its competitiveness in the international transport services market.
